Brazil and the COP21

rousseff cop21The president of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, openly criticized during her participation at the Climate Summit (COP21) in Paris, the “irresponsible actions” of international mining companies working in her country and that provoked the largest environmental disaster in Brazil’s history, washed off entire towns and left a dead toll of at least 13 persons.

Rousseff focused her attention on the abiding force of the agreement and stressed that it “should not be the sum of well-intentioned plans, they should state the paths we should take.The implementation of the new agreements, financing and transfer of technology should assure that all countries have the necessary means to reach our common objective.”

Brazil has already announced that it has set a target to reduce gases which cause the greenhouse effect by 37 percent until 2025 and by 43 percent until 2030 and replant and restore 12 million hectares of forest plus 15 million hectares of degraded pasture land
